Name:
Sophia Hollick
Position:
Graduate Student in Physics

What do you do here at Wright Lab?

I’m a member of Reina Maruyama’s group and work with the COSINE-100 dark matter direct detection experiment. Mainly, I have been studying the activation of radioisotopes in our detectors and am now using those results to shift to detector R&D for COSINE-200.

What is the most unique and/or exciting experience you’ve had here at Wright Lab?

Making friends with my fellow students and researchers here at the lab has been the most rewarding experience. Meeting people from all kinds of backgrounds has been fascinating and I have found everyone to be very kind and supportive of each other. It helps my motivation to do great research when I see those around me doing so as well!

What are you looking forward to in the coming year at Wright Lab?

I’m looking forward to things being in person again! I’m thrilled to be able to work more closely with our international collaborators and to start having seminars with food!

What is something that people might not know about you that you’d like to share with the community?

I play the guitar, piano, and bass! I took piano lessons for 6 or 7 years when I was a kid, but then learned guitar and bass on my own. I’ve always wanted to be part of a band but have held jam sessions many times as well as open mic nights with friends.  I also enjoy spending time with my lady, Hazel (see picture)!
