What do you do here at Wright Lab?

I’m currently searching for dark matter axions with Professor Maruyama and Lamoreaux.   My primary project is the HAYSTAC experiment, which searches for axions using a halocope located here at Wright Lab, and is the first axion search to achieve sub-quantum limited noise.  I’m also working on the RAY experiment, which is looking to extend axion searches to higher mass/frequencies with the use of Rydberg atoms.  In addition, I previously helped to organize the NPA seminars here at WL.

What is the most unique and/or exciting experience you’ve had here at Wright Lab?

I really enjoy the community and general environment here at WL, and getting to watch WL reopen after COVID was extremely exciting.  Another thing I’ve really enjoyed was getting to give tours of our lab to different student groups, in particular, the GAINS program.  It’s always fun getting to explain what we do here at WL and these groups are always extremely engaged and ask great questions.  This isn’t something I had done before and I’ve found these tours very rewarding.

What are you looking forward to in the coming year at Wright Lab?

I’m really looking forward to finishing up our most recent HAYSTAC data run and getting to work on some potential upgrades to the experiment.  It’s great having a running experiment, but I always miss getting my hands dirty working on the experiment when we are in stable operating mode.  My favorite days at WL are always the ones when we have the dilution fridge open and are working on the experimental setup.

What is something that people might not know about you that you’d like to share with the community?

I really enjoy running and I try to get in a run most days as I find it helps to relax me and clear my head.  I’m also an avid Philly sports fan and (mostly) enjoy watching the Eagles/Sixers whenever I can.
