Parking
NOTE: Parking is currently extremely limited and not guaranteed around the lab due to construction. Please see our construction update page for more information.
Parking is very expensive in New Haven, and most people can get by without a car (in inclement weather, you can Uber/Lyft across the city for about $10, parking is likely $25+). If you are driving, most Yale lots are free and open to the public, but only after hours (5pm - 7am). For all other times, there are a few visitor lots nearby with hourly or daily parking fees. The closest pay-by-app lot is Lot 16V (Parkmobile, location 2087). See Yale Parking Maps for more information. Note: There may be limited availability in Lot 16, for a daily fee. Check with your host for more information.
Air Travel
Bradley International Airport (BDL): Windsor Locks (Hartford), CT (52 Miles)
Easiest all-around airport to navigate. Transportation to New Haven: rental cars, public transportation (see ‘Train Service’), taxi (Uber is around $80), and private car service (we recommend Hy’s or Elite).
John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK): Jamaica, NY (80 miles)
Busiest of the area’s airports and can be a congested (vehicle/shuttle) commute to/from New Haven depending on the time of day. Transportation to New Haven:
Most economical: public transportation. Take the AirTrain to the Jamaica subway station, then take the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Station in NYC. Transfer to Metro-North Railroad and take to Union Station in New Haven. You can then take the Yale Shuttle (more info below), walk, or a taxi/ride-share service to the lab.
Other options: GoAirport Shuttle shared van service; private car service (like Hy’s or Elite); car rental.
LaGuardia Airport (LGA): Flushing, NY (73 Miles)
Flights to cities across US, Canada, the Caribbean
Quieter, smaller, easier to pass through compared to JFK and EWR
Other options:
Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (HVN): New Haven, CT (5 Miles)
Small airport with domestic flights only. Note: Limited runway and close proximity to New Haven Harbor’s weather influence results in occasional delays and/or cancelations.
Car rentals, M7 taxi service, and Lyft rideshare services are available for hire (Uber is not licensed to operate here).
Newark Airport (EWR): Newark, NJ (93 Miles)
International travel
Amtrak provides rail service to/from EWR- New Haven
Westchester County Airport (HPN): Harrison, NY (50 miles)
Car rentals, taxis, and limos serve HPN
Connections at major hubs allow access from international destinations
