What do you do here at Wright Lab?

I mainly work on two projects; COSINE-100 dark matter search experiment with Prof. Reina Maruyama and MicroBooNE neutrino experiment with Prof. Bonnie Fleming. On COSINE-100, I’ve been involved in every part of the experiment, from the detector commissioning to dark matter annual modulation analysis. On MicroBooNE, I work on neutrino event reconstruction in liquid argon time projection chambers and low energy electron neutrino selection analysis. These projects I’m working on are pretty close to milestone results, which is very exciting.

What is the most unique and/or exciting experience you’ve had here at Wright Lab?

I love that the Wright Lab has excellent infrastructure for hardware R&D, such as huge lab space, clean rooms, machine shops, and engineering experts. I also very much enjoy a company of people from diverse fields in particle physics. It has undoubtedly been a great experience to do research in such an environment.

What is something that people might not know about you that you’d like to share with the community?

I played clarinet in an army band for two years when I was in Korea. It wasn’t like I was good at playing it; rather, I was completely new to the clarinet! I was simply recruited to the army band just because I knew how to read music notes and play the violin. Learning and playing an instrument in the army instead of going through military training was an interesting and rewarding experience.

Where do you like to work remotely?

I mostly work in my room with a standing desk, but I move to a kitchen table when I want a scenery change.
