Biographical Sketch: Claire Laffan is a graduate student in Reina Maruyama’s group, which she initially joined as a post-baccalaureate researcher during her gap-year after college. Laffan is originally from Summerfield, NC. Outside of research, she enjoys video games, taking care of her 40+ houseplants, reading, and snuggling with her cat, Roo.

Research: Laffan works on two axion dark matter direct detection experiments, HAYSTAC and ALPHA.

Science Goal: Search for axion dark matter using quantum and microwave technologies.

WL Involvement: Yale is responsible for systems engineering, cryogenics, and magnetics. Lamoreaux and Maruyama are PIs of HAYSTAC, Maruyama is deputy spokesperson of ALPHA and PI of RAY.
