Students in the 2026 Summer Student Research Program at Wright Lab presented their summer’s work to their peers, mentors, and the community at a variety of symposia.

The Summer Student Research Program at Wright Lab, held this year from June 1 to July 31, is an annual program that began in 2018.  All student researchers working at Wright Lab (WL), the Yale Physics Department the Yale Astronomy Department the Yale Quantum Institute (YQI),  and those in certain associated programs at Hopkins Authentic Research Program in Science (HARPS), SCSU (Werth IAF/Quantum Pie), and QuantumCT during the summer of 2026 were invited to join the program.  In 2026, the program supported fifty-eight students.

The programming is designed to provide training opportunities in the physical sciences, technology, and scientific instrumentation by providing hands on research and mentoring experiences; technical and professional development training workshops; immersion in the local, national, and international research communities, and the opportunity to participate in and/or lead outreach activities.  At the end of the program, each student gives a final presentation on their summer’s work.

On July 31, fifteen students in the program (including a high school student) who did their summer research at the Yale Physics Department or YQI presented their work at the program’s final symposium.

Students in the program who worked in the Yale Astronomy Department, the REVU program, and the SCSU Werth IAF Fellows presented at separate symposia. Additionally, Iker Salinas Diaz, a high school student from Wilbur Cross High school who joined the program via the Yale Pathways Summer Research Internship Program (YPRI), will present at a YPRI symposium on August 14.

The Summer Student Research Program at Wright Lab is an annual program, sponsored by Wright Lab since 2018.  In 2022, the program expanded and is now co-sponsored along with Yale Astronomy, Yale Physics, and YQI. The program is coordinated by Victoria Misenti, Wright Lab program manager; Florian Carle, YQI managing director; and Robert Zinn, professor of astronomy, with logistical support from the Yale Physics business and administrative office.
