Wright Lab expands to explore the invisible Universe

Wright Lab new entrance from August 2026.

On August 3, Wright Lab opened its doors to the new Wright Lab Exploration Wing (WLE). The Exploration Wing is a new addition to Wright Lab and has been under construction since June 2024. It includes state-of-the-art research laboratories, office and interaction spaces, and technical facilities along with the new Advanced Instrumentation Development Center (AIDC).

The Wright Lab Exploration Wing is a first step in the Upper Science Hill Development and will enable the construction of the future Physical Science and Engineering Building (PSEB). The AIDC is a hub for the development and construction of research instrumentation at Yale and will house several technical cores including advanced prototyping, the professional and research shops, an electronics shop, and CAD design and engineering support. Together, WLE and AIDC will enhance the current capabilities of Wright Lab and enable frontier research and innovation well into the future.

Over the next few weeks, Wright Lab researchers and AIDC staff will move into the new Exploration Wing and set up the new spaces. The official opening will be announced later in the Fall.

Karsten Heeger, Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics, director of Yale’s Wright Lab, and co-chair of the AIDC planning group said, “The Wright Lab Exploration Wing provides the Wright Lab community with amazing new state-of-the-art facilities for our research and training, supporting our program in discovery science.”

The new front entrance to Wright Lab is located off of the intersection of Whitney Avenue and Humphrey Street, across from the Yale Peabody Museum.
