Join the Kimball Smith Series for a moderated discussion on the science and policy of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) with Dr. Eben Mulder, Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist at X-energy. The event will explore the opportunities and challenges facing SMRs, including cost, safety, policy, and more, with insight into cutting-edge reactor designs, their applications, and the evolving role of nuclear in shaping the future of energy.
Eben Mulder leads the development of high-temperature gas reactor (HTGR) technology, focusing on expanding applications beyond electricity. He oversees R&D, fuel-cycle innovation, waste reduction, cybersecurity, proliferation resistance, and supply chain strategies for the Xe-100 reactor.
X-energy has recently secured $500 million in financing, anchored by Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund. This investment aims to complete the design and licensing of X-energy’s Xe-100 reactor to power Amazon data centers across the US. With Amazon, X-energy plans to deploy over 5 gigawatts of new SMR capacity across the U.S. by 2039.
