Wright Lab hosted a special event in celebration of National Wear Red Day on February 7, 2020.
National Wear Red Day is an annual celebration to raise awarness and funds for the number one killer of women–cardiovascular disease. Donations accepted at the event were sent to the American Heart Association (Greater New Haven Chapter).
The event was introduced with a brief talk on heart health by Yale School of Medicine assistant professor of clinical medicine (cardiology) Sarah Hull. Dr. Hull also provided free blood pressure screenings.
Those who donated $5 or more were given a Wear Red pin and tickets to participate in various activities, including:
- make your own heart-shaped, heart-healthy waffle
- heart ring toss
- pin the mitral valve on the heart
- draw the most anatomically correct heart contest (won by Wright Lab graduate student Michael Oliver)
- raffles
Free information on heart health issues was also available at the event.
The Wright Lab Wear Red Day event was initiated and coordinated by senior administrative assistant in physics Paula Farnsworth.
