On Friday, January 17, 2020, Wright Lab hosted several events in correlation with the 2020 APS Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) at Yale.

First, Wright Lab hosted a lunch discussion for postdoctoral associates and graduate students with the  CUWiP plenary speakers Melissa Franklin (Harvard University) and Louise Edwards (Cal Poly).  Associate professor of physics Reina Maruyama led the discussion, which ranged from career stories and words of wisdom to book recommendations.

Next, Wright Lab hosted a series of rotating tours for CUWiP participants.  Wright Lab program manager Victoria Misenti led a tour of the shared Wright Lab facilities, such as the shops, Advanced Prototyping Center (introduced by James Wilhelmi), clean rooms, and high bays; and then toured  faculty labs, with on-site presentations by Maruyama, assistant professor Laura Newburgh, associate research scientist Domenico Franco, graduate student Caitie Beattie, assistant professor David Moore, postdoctoral associate Gadi Afek, and postdoctoral associate Fernando Henrique do Rego Monteiro.

At the same time, Wright Lab hosted a hands-on workshop led by graduate student Arina Telles, where participants learned the basics of particle detectors by building their own light-sensing micro-detector with photocells and Arduinos.
