Strange New Worlds

Discussion of two new open questions in the field of hadronic physics that can be addressed at the Electron-Ion Collider.

Abstract: Nearly half a century after QCD was confirmed as the fundamental theory of the strong force, the description of nucleons and nuclei in terms of their fundamental constituents remains an extremely challenging problem. My talk centers on some recently posed open questions in the field of nucleon structure that can be addressed by the upcoming Electron-Ion Collider. First I will provide some perspectives on understanding the proton's "forgotten" quantum number. Then I will discuss the emergence of the QCD energy-momentum tensor and gravitational form factors as a new language to study hadrons, and how we can access the strange mechanical structure of the proton.
