What do you do here at Wright Lab?

I work with Profs. Reina Maruyama and Karsten Heeger on CUORE, which is an experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta decay. I have been working with the group on a muon veto system, which we hope will allow us to reduce backgrounds enough for the sensitivity of CUPID, CUORE’s next-generation experiment.

What is the most unique and/or exciting experience you’ve had here at Wright Lab?

Definitely being taught to solder by the one and only Emily Pottebaum. I haven’t worked with hardware much so it was a good (/frustrating) experience learning this skill.

What are you looking forward to in the coming year at Wright Lab?

In a similar vein, I have no experience with machining so I’m excited to try and take the machine shop class this fall. Also, the CUORE group @ Yale is deploying a muon veto system at INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) soon. This is the project I’ve been working on since joining the group so it’ll be exciting to see the culmination of our efforts!

What is something that people might not know about you that you’d like to share with the community?

I like to go for walks and I once, on a whim, spent a day walking 30 miles around the perimeter of San Francisco. I also love going to art museums. My favorite museum is probably the Whitney; my favorite piece I’ve seen in person is The Kiss; and my favorite museum activity is pointing out every disproportionately painted dog I can find.
